SEASON ENDS 2009

A rainy weekend at Mosten in Denmark, only force us to create some fun. This time it was time to have a Fjatti look-alike show. It definitive creates a lot of laughing and smiling faces. Guess who is the original??
After a season with promising times, good progress with the bike, it all ends in Santa Pod, England.
The first qualification run gives us 6,75 , behind Lorenz strong 6,57. Also Koedam did a nice personal best with 6.857 and 3`rd place.
The second qualification run I work with the bike and didn’t give full throttle before 200 mtr, and got only 6.98. Bengtsson run 6.73, and push us down to 3´rd spot.
Under the service we discover some bad crack in the clutch base structure. After a discussion we decide to weld the cracks, 3´rd run, we had to stop the engine after the burn out, cause of a leaking emergency shut of valve. Lorenz did another strong pass 6.55, and Per 6.70. Final qualifying, last chance to improve. My team member from Hawgs Racing, Svein Olav and Trond runs 7.14 and 7.13. Their weekends best and into the ladder 6´th and 7´th place. Heezen run 6.851 and into 4´rd place. Our last qualifications run 6.9 and totally destruction of the clutch at 300 mtr. All towers were gone. Some parts shoot hole in the oil tank. Luckily no parts hit me, the clutch cover did work.
At this point we though the race was finish, but in the evening our tent champion Per Bengtsson showing up with a old clutch, and gives us the chance to build it in to our bike. For the weekend we got a Super Twin Top Fuel Team from Germany helping us. Acka Reimer with three mechanics, show their skills and work the night through. Mona Myrseth from Islanders Top Methanol Dragster gives us her spaghetti boiler to make new clutch cover. We also had to change the rear wheel after damaging from the clutch explosion.
Next morning the Lightning was ready again for first elimination. First challenge was Trond, we ran our best 60ft in the weekend 1.13 but went up in smoke with a spinning tire after 1.4 second and out of the contest. Congratulation to Trond. Per take out Svein Olav who blows parts across the track in a engine explosion. Lorenz had to shut of cause of misfiring, so Per was already UEM champion 2009 at this point. Congratulation Per Bengtsson, who also Winn the tent championship. Heezen 6.68 take out Koedam 6.79 in a side by side.
Semifinal: Per 6.56 and personal best, take out Trond 7.58. Heezen 6.74 takes out Samu 7.28. Final: Heezen 6.69, take out Per 6.93 who broke the cam belt. Congratulation Job.
Before the season start I suppose to see this four teams on top. I was right.
There are so many people I like to thank for their support and help.
First of all my team: Anne Marit, Axel, Bjørn, John Anders, Sven Erik, Jerry, Steinar and Kenneth.
Especially thanks to team Acka Reimer for all their helps, Mona for her spaghetti boiler, Bengtsson for parts, support and good behave in Norwegian support shirt. I really think Per is on the way out of his closet, he wants to be a Norwegian.
Thanks to all the Sponsors who helped me out in good and bad times during the season: GB-tech, Jessheim Bilskade, Kim Johansen transport, Fannrem Motorverksted, Sande Gård, Profilhuset and VP-Racing Fuel.

Looking back, this has been a very interesting season. We started as 2´nd qualifier at Santa Pod, broke the primary belt in semifinal, and had problems with dropping cylinder. 3`rd qualifier in Finland, still struggle with dropping cylinder and jammed throttle shaft. Then we run personal best 1/8 mile at Mantorp 4.31 and were 1.st.qualifier, solve one problem but make another and were taken out in the first elimination. Winner of Dragchallenge Gardermoen, 4 straight 6 second runs in Hockenheim, 1st. qualifier and the first Super Twin team to run 6 second run in Hungary. We did a 3´rd qualification place in the finals. Into next season we gone make new clutch, read and study all the data from this year and work hard to avoid small mistakes.
Thank you all, see you next season, greetings from Hans Olav Olstad, and all member of Olstad Racing Team.

Hungarys first 6 second run.
After another learning session in Hockenheim, we arrived Kunmadaras in Hungary as the first Super Twin Team ever.
In Hockenheim we tried out our new clutch floaters. Did a nice 6.88, 6.84, 6.97 and 6.83. This gives us a lead of 0.15 second in front of Lorenz. We fight for a place in the final. Only one bike from Super Twin and Top fuel had to go to a final show. In a terrible long waiting in the line up, the air changes from 2300ft. to 3200ft. and our set up was to rich and the engine drown after 1.2 second. Congratulation to Lorenz who go to the final against Ian King. But Lorenz seems to using his part of luck this year, and over ref the engine in the burnout, so it stops on the ignition rpm limit. Ian got a solo run, go to rich and get a lazy 8 second run. We was very happy to get a run in the night show in front of 70.000 spectators, showing some nice big flames from Lightning, this time from the exhaust pipe.
Kunmadaras show us the longest, widest and flat track in Europe. And it was hot, during the day we had up to 37C degreed in the shadow. I can promises that are hot when we put on all our safety equipment.
We get a opportunity to a test run Thursday evening, but under the burn out I discover something was wrong with the bike. Lightning doesn’t run properly and the data logging screen goes on and off several times. I just shut off and moved back to the pit, and find out the battery was gone. Happy to save the bike, but disappointed not to be the first Super Twin over the track, when we had the chance.
First session Friday, we ran a 7.11 and was 1 qualifier. Second run 7.03, very close to a six second run, and still 1 qualifier. Per Bengtsson did a 7.04, Lorenz 7.18.
Saturday, we ran the first 6 second run ever in Hungary, and the speaker get crazy. 6.936, and 334 km/h. the track was much better then expected. Thank you very much, to the track preparing crew from Santa Pod, you did a fantastic job with the track. Also another big thanks to the organizer Joseph and his wife, their work for this paid off in a good and safe event. Second time this year we was 1. qualifier in to the elimination.
First elimination, we got a solo run when Roman Sixta had to shut off after his burn out. I go a bit near the center line and leave the throttle for about 2 second, but still did a nice 7.14, 322km/h.
Job Heesen was outside the ladder after some big problems and a blown head, but goes in on Mattis 4.place when Matti didn’t show causes engine problem. Job solved his engine problem and show everybody the potential of his driving skills. 6.935 and beet my previous track record with 0.001 of a second. Congratulation Job, you did a great job during the night with the bike, and I’m happy to se you solve your problem, but hey, it wasn’t necessary to beet my record, hehe.
Per take out Ismo and Lorenz take out Martyn De Haas who also lifted a head and cylinder. Job got the line choice and I tried to run with the same set up as last run in the left line. It was some difference between the lines, and everybody vent up in smoke in that line during the finals. I also vent up in smoke and Job was far away, crossing the finish line first. So to be the first man back, I drove Lightning straight back to the pit with the nitro burning engine running. I maybe scare some people, but that was fun.
Next pair was Lorenz and Per, the most interesting run this season. Per had to take out Lorenz to equalize their points standing. Per had line choice, and go in right line. Lorenz was quick on the start line, and Per was behind. Lorenz went up in smoke on same spot as I did. Per was quick ahead, and take out Lorenz with a 7.007 to 7.34.
Final: Per had line choice again, and go in right again. Heesen was quick like a rocket on the start line and was really in front of Per. Job vent up in smoke on the same spot as Lorenz and me, but also Per start to smoke his tire. It was like the time stay still, the riders fight with their bike to the end and Per was first over the line 7.05, to Jobs 7.18.
We like to Congratulate out tent champion Per Bengtsson as the winner of the 4th round of the UEM championship. He is now leading with 6 point in front of Lorenz. I have to fight for the 3place when Job are 11 points ahead me. The finals on Santa pod gone bee more interesting that ever. See you all there, best regards Olstad Racing Team, Hans Olav.

Olstad Racing Team wants to give a special thanks to our sponsors, Jessheim Bilskade, Kim Johansen and GB-Tech, who made this trip possible.

Sunoco Dragchallenge Gardermoen gives us answers and victory.

Some way this weekend was the strangest event so far. It started with rain, rain and more rain then you can imagine. Half of the pit area was under water, and a big digging machine had to dig a big hole in the field to try drain out some of it. There was no racing on Friday, but slowly the track dries up and they start to prepare the fastest track in Europe.

With lots of waiting cause water bubbling up on the track, some oils from cars and bikes, we get our first session on Saturday 15.00 o’clock. Dragracing is also a challenge of patient. Same problem as before the engine dropped cylinder at the upper end, and we didn’t get any time either.

Luckily we got a extra run. Still dropping cylinder at upper end and was 3 qualifier. Third run, same shit happens again, the dropped cylinder seems to be a big challenge at this moment. We ended as no 4 qualifier.
Svein Olav manage to do a nice 6.69 on the new blower bike and was no 1 qualifier, Vidar 2 qualifier 7.08, Trond 3 qualifier 7.42.
Ronny broke the primary belt and also lifted a head, Erik Frank damage the crank. Peter Svensson did the best run ever in Europe on his Top Fuel Bike with a 5.93. He also run a 6.05 on Sunday.

Elimination day.
Lots of lots of waiting, first round goes 13.30, semifinal 18.45, and luckily the final 20.00. Svein Olav meets Greger, Svein Olav did a burnout from the start line, the bike changes direction and cross the centerline. Greger lifted both head.
After a long night brainstorming with the crew, we did a serious change to the bikes setup, run a nice 7.07 and take out Carsten 7.81. Then we had a lucky Lorenz in semifinal we met Mr. Bye (solo run). Vidar made personal best 6.99 and take out Matti. Trond also made a personal best 7.14 and take out Skutt (Ulf Nylen).
Semifinal.
We did a 6.81, and finally Lightning was moving on the right direction. Vidar 7.44/318km/t take out Trond 7.45/317km/t in a very nice side by side.

Final.
Vidar was fast as a bullet on the tree and show a reaction time that impressed everybody, 0.06 second. For my case I did a 0.14 and that’s good for me. I spun the tire from start line but hooked up pretty good. On 1/8 mile I was ahead Vidar, and Lightning pulling strong all the way to a vinning 6.99. Vidar 7.48.
We are on a good road at the moment, and look forward to the next UEM event in Hugary. At the moment we don’t know if we are allowed to race in Hockenheim.
Special thanks to Espen and Bjorn from Jessheim Bilskade who served food and made a nice time for everybody in the tent.
Best regards
Olstad Racing Team.
Hans Olav Olstad

30.07.2009
Finally we are there.
Mantorp Sweden gives us the answers we hope for. Lightning is now moving faster than ever and run a tremendous 4.31 second and 286 km/h on the 1/8 mile, a new personal best. According to Eurodragster it was also new track speed record and the best 1/8 mile time in Europe this year. It place us as 1st qualifier, for the first time in UEM.

1st qualifying session.
We expect a better track in Mantorp after Alastaro, so we turn on the clutch canon again. The bike moves nice from start line but starts to spin wheel at 150 meter and dropped a cylinder. Rolled in to 4,64 and 2 place on qualification list. Bengtsson 4.52 and 1st qualifier. Rolfstad broke his drive chain and made a explosion of parts from the bike, badly damaged the carbon body, frame and wheelie bars pipe had to be changed out. Their team did a great job to repair the bike and was back on track next day.

2.q.session.
We turn off the clutch canon to avoid more spinning tire, and run a very good 4,42/276km/h, and ended as a 1st qualifier.
It was nice to see the new Finnish teams perform good and also climb on the list. Nice to see Samu, Ismo and Jukka on the ladder at this moment.

3.q.session.
With the clutch canon out of business, a nice place on the ladder we like to play a little bit with the bike and totally change the clutch canon set up. Together with Job Heesen we did a tremendous side by side and clocked 4,31/286km/h to Jobs 4,33/276km/h. WOW. That was a happy moment after all the years with trouble.

4.q.session.
Adam wasn’t in Paradise for a long time, and some gremlins we had in Finland shows up again. There was still something prevented me from open the throttle fully. 4,68/269km/h. Svein Olav was back on track and did a nice 4,62, gives 5th place on the ladder. After some detective work we find out the shaft in the throttle body missing grease, that’s the explanation why the throttle was to hard to open properly.

Lots of the teams had problem. Greger Johansson blow the head twice, Heesen blow a head, Charlie blow a head, Haas blow a head, Koedam damaged some cam parts. Ronny still braking belts as expected. Lorenz seems to do bullfighting and some way he always manage to stay on the bike to the finish line and Jaska struggle with the new bikes.

Elimination day.
1st pair out, me and Matti. I drown the engine immediately from the start line and had to see Matti 4.71 in front on the finish line. At that moment some bad words sounded in my helmet, but congratulation Matti, hope to bet you with a moving bike next time. Matti also made a challenge to the track cleaners when he empty his oil all over the track in 400 meter. When I properly open the new greased throttle I also properly open the valve for the nitro and the engine didn’t like 10% more nitro at this time.
Lorenz 4.44 take out Svein Olav 5.73, Samu 4.88 take out Heesen who had to shut off after burn out, Per 4.54 take out Greger 5.08.

Semifinal.
Lucky Lorenz had bye cause Matti brake his engine, but did a impressing straight run, 4.41 in his solo. Per 4.54 take out Ismo 4.96.

Final rained out. Next event is Dragchallenge at Gardermoen 31july-2august. We really look forward to race ¼ mile again. See you there, best regards Olstad Racing Team Hans Olav

Tricky Track in Finland.

Alastaro race track gives us some surprise and hard landings.
The entry list shows 18 bikes, 6 bikes from Finland. Nice to see the growing Super Twin class and welcome to all the new racers.
With the good times from England we hope to get a good grip. We find a good grip but also loose it.

First qualification run, fastest time on the whole weekend at 1/8 mile, 4.46 and 309 km/t. Then the wheel starts spinning, loose traction and dropped a cylinder, rolled from 250 meter to finish line and ended 7.06. Beaten by Per Bengtsson 6,92 and Lorenz 6,89.
Second qualification same story, start to spin the wheel at 200 meter, loose traction dropped very hard down, I hit the frame and crack a rib bone. Heesen did a nice 7,03 and push us down to 4 qualification place.
Third qualification run, out with some of the power in the engine, and we manage to hold traction up to 1000ft. Then one cylinder dropped and another 7,05. Lots of the bikes had problems this round and only Lorenz was faster 7,03 Svein Olav manage to run fast enough to get in to the ladders 8 place 8,35.

1. Elimination, Lorenz wins when Svein Olav blows his engine. We did a thriller against Matti. Matti was first from the line and did a great 60 ft. 1,09. I was in front on 1/8 mile, but had to let of the throttle because drifting into the side wall. Matti was in front on 1000 ft, I give throttle again after straighten the bike, and cross finish line 4/100 second in front. Matti broke his primary belt on 1000ft.
Ismo Mäenpää red light. 8,630/235 Winner Job Heezen 8,248/185.
Martyn de Haas.8,799/174 Winner. Per Bengtsson 7,067/287

2. Elimination. Lorenz was first from the line, I try to give throttle but something prevented me from open it fully, and one cylinder dropped immediately. Lorenz had a easy win 7,16. Per did a 7,16 and take out Heesen 7.44,
Final. Per and Lorenz did another thriller of a race. Lorenz was first from the line, but Per seems to have a stronger bike and did a clean straight run, crossing 2/100 second in front of Lorenz. This was a really nice fight.
We like to gratulate Bengtsson with his first victory since 2003. Well done Per.

At the moment Lorenz is 30 points ahead, Heezen 13 points, and Per 10 points ahead. This is good for the championship, it is 3 rounds left.

Next event in Mantorp in Sweden, and we did have faith for a good result, we did the fastest 1/8 mile in Finland, 4,46. Mantorp is a 1/8 mile track.

See you at Mantorp 24-26 July.
Best regards Olstad Racing Team.

Congratulation to TJH Racing.

We like to send our congratulation Trond J Høgberget, www.tjhracing.com winner of Super Twin Top Fuel Bike Norwegian Championship 2009. This is his first event and his first victory in the Super Twin Circus. He take out Matti Vahasaari in the quarter finale, Matti was no.6 qualifier in UEM Main Event 2009, Santa Pod England. Then Trond suppose to meet Svein Olav Rolfstad in the semi final. But Svein Olav was prevented form start because damaged pinion shaft on his bikes crank. Then Trond was a Norwegian Champion. There was one more to meet, Lorenz, but Trond also had a bearing problem on the rear wheel and Lorenz had a solo final in to the event victory.
Trond also was no.1qualifier in the first round in Nordic series at Sundsvall Raceway in Sweden 13june2009, Congratulate again. Sad to know the event was canceled cause of rain. Trond bought the Super Twin Bike from Trond Alm, winter 2008, a bike build in 2003. Clean in for dust, it haven’t been used for while, and started it may 2009, to take his license.
We know the bike runs well, down to 6,83 second in 2004. The bike had a win at the UEM at Gardermoen 2004, also winner of Norwegian Championship, and Nordic series.

Olstad Racing Team would like to welcome TJH Racing Team in the UEM soon as possible. Well done Trond.
Best Regards from Olstad Racing Team.

Disappointed driver.

Norwegian Championship did not go in our direction, but we had a new learning lesion.
Some small problem with the drivers memory, when he forgot to turn on the ignition and fuel curve, give only a 7.04 on the first qualification run. Second qualification run, Nice and straight with a easy clutch, then the engine dropped a cylinder at the upper end, gives a disappointed 7.09.
Third qualification run, then the driver cure his Alzheimer Light, the bike was very strong and pull to the centerline and he had to shut off, rolled from 150 meter to the finish line 8.47. After all we were the Norwegian fastest team, only beaten by Lorenz 6.89, who came the long way from Switzerland to do a test weekend.
Quarter final against Svein Olav Rolfstad and his new blower bike. Svein Olav struggle this weekend to fine power in the bike and was only 6 qualifier. Then he call back some horses and run a 7.07 to our 7.17. I had 0.02 second better reaction time, was on his side the whole race, ready to pass him at the upper end when the engine drops a cylinder again. Svein Olav was half a bike before me on the finish line.
Disappointed driver back in the pit start a brainstorming and then we find answers causing all the dropping cylinders at the track ends. It was only a matter of how the fuel curve was programmed. We also had some minor problems with the idle, causes by a crack in the inlet. The bike is under repair and will be ready to the next UEM event in Alastaro, Finland 5-7 July.
We know the bike is super strong and if the driver manage to do his brain work we look forward to nice passes in Finland.
See you there, best regards Olstad Racing Team.

Promising Season Start.

For the first time after many events we travel back home with a big smile on our faces. We started to test the bike 16-17 may with the new heads and new front steering cover.
It was very windy the first run and the wind force the bike over to the right line after the finish line. 7.09.
Second test run, nice and straight and another 7.09. We discover a stuck gas wire and the ignition curve haven’t been activated at all. The throttle was only ¾ open.
Third test run, the new steering cover was on place and all wires greased, everything work perfect, 6.83 and a early shut off. We know we are into something promising.
Main Event, first qualification run. The track was slippery and we run with a spinning wheel the whole track, 7.07, but we manage to run the best time and were no 1 qualifier. Second qualification run, the bike didn’t stay straight on the start line and move hard to the right wall, so there was nothing to do except leave the throttle, 7.98, Dropped to no 2 qualifier when Job Heesen did a nice 6.92. Third qualification run, 6.80, the bike was in the mood, but dropped a cylinder on 5.8 second and we run a super-one for the last 100 meter, not a super-twin. Back to no1 qualifier a few minutes then Per Bengtsson run a nice 6.68. Forth qualification run, we had a very nice run and I expected a nice time but still only 6.88. I blame the bad air quality for that time, the air altitude dropped from 1300 ft to 2020 ft.
Final day.
Lots of the bikes got problem on the start-line. Lorenz got a solo-run in the quarter final and semi-final. Svein Olavs bike stopped, Matti had to shut off, cause leaking steering dampener, Per lost a clutch spring and blow the blower burst-panel, and Tommy blow a head. I had the first challenge against Chris Cannon, a big man with even bigger heart, who was on the old bike from Rob Geffen. We ran a winning 6.78 and was ready to challenge Job Heesen in the semi-final. The bike dropped a cylinder again 40 meter before finish line. Then the data logger gives us a nightmare when reading no oil pressure. Cam-cover was removed and we discover a bushing out of the line, and the oil went in a wrong direction. We work it out just in time to reach the semi-final. Small adjustments and the bike were ready again. Heesen show a reaction time of 0.04 to my 0.19 but on 100 meter I almost catching him up, then the primary belt broke and I had to see Job far away crossing the finish line in front of me. Bad luck, but nothing happened to the engine, and we know our bike Lightning work better than ever.
Next event 6-7 June, Norwegian championship, and watch out folks we will be there to test out new settings for the next UEM event in Finland.
Best regards Olstad Racing Team.
